The
world's longest abseil took place on the 15th October
1996, when Ian Ashpole descended a 1600 feet rope from a hot air
balloon, flying 10,000 feet above Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The descent was filmed
by for BBC's Record Breakers Christmas special and was made from the
Sainsbury's Flying Strawberry balloon - piloted by Chris Dunkley
